What's the Easiest way to create the lightsaber effect?
by Sa Dilshan on Jan 17, 2019 at 11:15:53 am

Hi, I want to create a lightsaber effect (one person, tripod shot) . I have a toy saber (without lights.) Problem is I want to create 2-3 minutes videos every week. (dont want to be professional at all) And it takes forever to animate it in AfterEffects frame by frame. Is there any easier way to do this while shooting. So I can save time in AE?

Make a really visible track point at both the tip and the hilt of your lightsaber. Use the Point Tracker to track each of these points. And then download this plugin:

Use the point tracking data to control the Start and End points of the Saber plugin, and then all you have to do is clean it up. You'll still have some hand work to do, but it's much easier than going frame by frame.

+ when shooting, use short shutter speed, that way AE will have much better time tracking the track points.

Darn, just saw this.

FanFilmFX.com is what you need.

It's a totally cool light saber generator. There's a free version and the paid version is only $4.

These are also hosted on FXFactory. So you can get them there with confidence.

Have fun!
