AVOID 12.1 update!

It has big issues!!

Re: AVOID 12.1 update!

Files with alpha channels are coming in corrupt. From Support "This is a bug that we have logged for the Premiere pro, it is happening with the PNG files as well as any mov file with the transparency (alpha channels) the workaround here is to revert to the older version"

Works fine here with a .mov file using the Gopro Cineform 12-bit with alpha codec.
I am on Windows 10 and I can assure you that I have no issue encoding and importing the above-mentioned file.
I suggest you try similar files and report back.

[Dan Powers] "it is happening with the PNG files as well"

I have been testing PNG files and I can report that they work just fine in an HD timeline.
Maybe your issues are Mac-related as I am on Windows 10.
Anyone else care to chip in?

Try this:
Modify -> Interpret Footage.
Under the Alpha Channel category, select "Conform Alpha Premultiplication To:
And also select the box: Premultiplied Alpha

"the workaround here is to revert to the older version"

How does one revert to 12.0.1? there is no way to not have 12.1 overwrite the older 12 versions.

Never mind, I see that it has 12.0.0 listed in the previous versions drop down.

Agreed! Mine wouldn't even open. After 1.5 hours of troubleshooting, uninstalling, reinstalling I was able to get back up and running by downgrading back to 12.0.1

Agreed! Major slowdowns - and Adobe Typekit keeps trying to resolve a conflict even though I have it shut off in CC. Spinning beachball trying to resolve that and xml imports given me lengthy beachballs. HUGE timewaster!!!!!

Yup. Another issue is that the search fields no longer work- greyed out.

[Christopher Paul] "Another issue is that the search fields no longer work- greyed out."

They work just fine here.

Two hours in and so far...

It wouldn't open, had to delete the "Typesupport" folder to get it working (which maybe explains the following problems)

Wrench icon (timeline display settings) doesn't work!

The Editing Mode drop down in sequence settings doesn't work!

Format drop down in Export Settings doesn't work!

Anyone else having these issues!?

Not impressed ]

Is this a Mac or Windows issue? If so, are you running the latest OS? So far, I've updated at least 8 Macs (various models) without issue, other than a few minor glitches here and there. Nothing outside of the ordinary.

Oliver,
I am having this problem on a 2012 iMac and a 2014 iMac. On a 2013 MacBook Pro it was working fine. We are now running all on 12.0.1

Also, FWIW had a problem where XML from Premiere 12.1 from our laptop wouldn't work in 12.0.1 so I sent the XML to Premiere 2017 and it opened in there then I was able to update that project to 12.0.1

Mac Pro (Late 2013). It's a production company who are still running 10.11.6 because of a server requirement.

Exported an xml and rolled back to 12.0.1 as I had work to do.

MASSIVE PROBLEMS on Premiere 12.1:

-.mov with alpha channels flicker, glitch
-Some .mp4 videos appear upside down
-Exporting FCP XML, fail upon importing to 12.0

Downgrading to 12.0 has problems also:
-Exporting .H264 renders "Error compiling movie -> Import Error -> importer returned bad result
-importing XMLs from 12.1 creates an error
-Starting a new project and dragging XML has some results, but creates problems upon exporting
-AME 12.0 fails
-Missing audio filter/video filter depending on whether AU or AE are upgraded/downgraded.

At least Adobe is admitting these problems exist, (search tag '12.1')

Great - still hasn't fixed the biggest issue of all mp4 media reading as offline though.
