Is the new EVGA 780 6GB card a no-brainer for Resolve?
Is the new EVGA 780 6GB card a no-brainer for Resolve?

I'm in the process of upgrading my aging MacPro (2009) with 2 new processors (6core each), 48gb of faster RAM, and new GPI cards (TBD).

Big thanks to Jake Blackstone for outlining this upgrade on RedUser. Assuming it all goes as planned, this will allow me to get another 2 years out of my MacPro.

The last decision I have to make is related to choice of GPUs to replace the 2 very dated GTX 285, I currently have in my Cubix. The GUI card in my MacPro is a Quadro 4000, and for now I'll keep that. I see that EVGA has just started shipping a 6gb version of their 780 card. I could get two of those for the price of one Titan Black. Seems like the right thing to do.

Has anybody got knowledge or advice or warnings to share related to running two of these new cards in my Cubix box, along side my RedRocket & HBA card?

You may even in some point get rid of the RR and put in one more 780.

On paper if cubix has the power then it should work.

I have 780 older model and 4000 as gui and 5k material in 2k timeline is RT at 25 fps on hd or 2k timeline
with full daybayer quality. I gets at least 5 nodes like this. Maybe a bit more.

Latest Resolve update with red gpu sdk support makes it cool and makes RR not needed in some point.

You will have to move to Mavericks to support the Titan Black and update all your drivers and CUDA. The OS 10.9.3 update broke nvidia support for the Titans (which worked for a while in 10.9.2) but new drivers were just released a few days ago. With the new web driver you are required have to move to CUDA 6.0.46 -- none of which have been officially certified by Black Magic, but I expect that is just a backlog issue with Resolve Evelyn imminent.
