Exporting Footage as MOV
Exporting Footage as MOV
by Rex Brown on Dec 21, 2010 at 2:17:49 pm

I have several 30 minute episodes I exported as XDCAM EX format, they are MXF files. We've been asked to ship them overseas as MOV format.

I'm not excited about rendering all over again if I don't have to.

Isn't there a way for Apple systems to use the XDCAM files?

Or if not, what's the best way to export HD Quicktime from Vegas 9?

Yes, tell the Apple editors to download the Final Cut Pro/XDCAM Transfer V2.12 program which is free from Sony. Then send them the MXF files on a disc.

Download and install the free Avid DNxHD codec and tell them to do the same. You'll need to make a Quicktime template that uses this codec and then render with that.

Thanks!

I tried exporting as MP4 but it defaults to a low bitrate and looked a little pixelated. I was going to try and bump up the bitrate and see where that would get us.

Hopefully they don't have a problem using the Sony plug-in!

If they do, just convert them to Avid DNxHD. It's a great 10-bit codec and it will preserve all of your quality (but the file size will be huge).
