Wiggle within a defined area

Is there a way to use a mask path to "clamp" the area an object wiggles within?
I have an unusual shape that a client wants a group of object to individually bounce around within. I've tried a couple of workarounds using clamp, but these all result in geometrically perfect results, so using a path to define an area seems like a good idea but I can't find any reference to this being done online, and aren't having much luck using the path properties I've discovered myself.
