I posted this on the Squeeze forum but this forum may be more appropriate. Sorry fot the double post.

I am looking to convert a lot of videos to internet friendly digital files like H-264 Mpeg 4. I have Squeeze but was looking for some good hardware solutions to speed the process up without losing quality. My source files will vary from analogue tape(BetaSP), Mpeg2 ripped from DVD masters, and Media Composer files(Some HD, some DV). They will be 30 mins to 1 hour long. Also I will be working on MacPros.I know there are a lot of options out there but can anyone recommend a high quality/fast converter for the process? I would never say "price is no object" but I am looking for speed and quality first and price last.

New Tube MacPro or old MacPro tower?

For a PCIe based card there's Matrox CompressHD.

You'd be surprised how fast a Haswell Quad i7 with software taking advantage of Intel QuickSync and encode. QuickSync isn't used in Xeon processors so not in MacPros.

Thanks your info is much appreciated. I have a Matrox Mini Pci card in place just for HD viewing so maybe an upgrades in order. I normally use Squeeze but have Media Encoder, Encore and Toast so I can switch for this project.
