"Medium" Quality DVCPRO HD?
"Medium" Quality DVCPRO HD?
by Nick Tempest on Aug 10, 2008 at 7:57:06 pm

We shoot everything with the HVX-200 using P2 cards. One of our technically savvy clients received some footage from us. He noticed that in the pull-down menu it says DVCPRO HD 24p60 at Medium Quality.

We all think that in the past, several months ago, on another shoot, our exact same camera gave us footage that said DVCPRO HD 24p60 at BEST Quality.

Our client is worrying that the Medium Quality isn't as good as Best.

Does this "Medium" versus "Best" in the Final Cut Pro movie analysis, in the world of DVCPRO HD, actually mean anything real?

Thank you so much in advance

In what software package did this Medium Quality Choice show up in?

Thanks,

I answered this on another forum, but that is just how FCP tags the footage. It always has been set as "medium" quality. Dunno why really. But it is normal. The footage is at full quality.

Maybe the geniuses at Apple figured that if you use DVCPRO 25 they'd call it "low quality or is it called dv quality?" and DVCPRO 50 would be called "medium quality" and DVCPRO 100 is "best quality"

Maybe that's the logic behind it.

The camera is only able to offer one qualtiy. Perhaps something happened in the timeline to change it? Go back to the timeline that you sent the client and see what you sent him. It should be the same there, or your client inadvertently changed settings. Keep in mind the camera nly does one quality on the cards,

Good luck,

As Shane says, this is just how DVCPro HD gets reported in FCP. The quality flag is ignored as Jan mentions, there's only one quality.
