Naming object buffers?
Naming object buffers?
by Brian Murphy on Sep 10, 2009 at 4:53:32 pm

Hey guys,

Is it not possible to name the object buffers in the multipass window so that when my buffers are rendered out, they already have the desired name in the filename? Or do I have to change the filename after rendering? I have a lot of object buffers and it would be wonderful to set the filename before rendering.

Thanks,
Brian

I did a video tutorial on object buffers http://www.kreativedomain.com/?p=1

if this is what you are referring to then the answer is not at this time....that is something that I think everyone would like to see in upcoming versions.

Well, 5 years later, I'm asking the same question.
Chris, your link is broken. Can either of you answer this question? I'd like C4D to spit out named object buffers. Can I?

Thanks,
Greg

Greg, do you have the answers yet?

I think the answer is "kinda". (R19 Broadcast)

The compositing tag on my object makes me assign the object to a numbered buffer.
However, in my multi-pass Save options, when I add an Object Buffer I AM allowed to rename it.

When rendering, it will use your render-setting-assigned-name for the Object Buffer IF you check the box "User Defined Layer Name" (e.g. "..._GregsBuffer_...")
Leaving this unchecked will default to appending it with the numerical value of the Object Buffer used in your Compositing Tag (e.g. "..._object_2...") .

Hope it helps!
-Greg
