Demo Reel - How long and what content?
by Russ Thorburn on Feb 26, 2008 at 4:00:04 am
This is my first post. I recently decided to try and turn my hobby into a side job. I have many years of expericence using After Effects and Photoshop. I can't say that I have the expertise of Aharon Rabinowitz or Andrew Kramer but I'm getting there thanks to their excellent tutorials. The trouble is, I'm not sure where to start or even what type of jobs I should expect to be available to me.
Judging from this forum dedicated to nothing but "Demo reels" it seems likely that I need to get a demo reel going. I therefore have a few initial questions and of course any further suggestions would be fabulous.
1. How long should a demo reel last?
2. What kind of content should I include (Yes, I realize this is probably unanswerable)?
Thanks for any suggestions helping me with my first demo reel.
Also, if this post should be located elsewhere feel free to direct me to the appropraite forum.

3 minutes or under. As far as content, its simple. Animate as much as you can and go with what you have a passion for. Run stuff past peers and get feedback.
Its much better to show 3-4 good things than 12-15 average to poor things.
