Church Audio Concert Question
Church Audio Concert Question
by Linda O'Connell on May 8, 2009 at 3:09:04 pm

I have been asked by a friend to film a small 6 person orchestra playing in a church. What would be the best way to get the audio for this?
I currently have a Sony DCR-VX2000 camera.. Do you think the audio from the on camera mic would be good enough or do you have any other suggestions?
If you suggest an external mic, what type? And where should it be placed?

Thank you

The on-camera shotgun, alone, certainly is NOT the way to go. You need to mic them closer and mix them, then feed that mix to the camera on channel one. Save the shotgun on channel two for some room ambience.

If you're asking this question, you are wise enough to know you're not yet skilled enough to pull this off without help. Get an audio person to mic them and mix them for you. I don't care how pretty your pictures are; if your audio sucks, its doomed.
