Media100 legal color output
on Mar 30, 2007 at 11:18:11 am

What do you guys do to legalize the color space of your media100 projects when outputing to digibeta-tape for broadcast?

We at our company noticed that the analog component output does alter the output to be below limits BUT the video level is much too low at around 0.58V instead of 0.75V for white?

We would like to master directly via SDI and if the colors coming out were already limited.

Are there any software solutions and workarounds like passing through Echo Fire for example?

Thanks in advance.

I can only recommend buying a hardware Legalizer for mastering. This way you can be sure that your tape is really within the broadcast specifications.

We are currently using a hardware legalizer for broadcast tapes.
Not in-house but in a post production facility which is a bit pricy.

Isn't there any cheap software solution or workaround?
All other editing suites like FCP, Avid and even Premiere have broadcast safe color filters built in.

eer dude, are you talking about an 844?
If so, please point me out how to get component out...

Next, get a decent vectorscope and waveform, and watch it.
It's quite simple. On the vectorscope you cannot go outside the circle, the waveform really is easy...
(now you can do a lot more with it, but hey..)
