Is there any way to restore old mattes?
on Oct 23, 2006 at 2:54:15 pm

Hello,

I'm just updating a job from a year ago. I've recaptured my footage for the program, but a lot of the clips have a static matte applied to them. Is there anyway to regenerate these static mattes?

For example, I just have to open up all the inscriber files for those to regenerate, but I'm not sure
what to do about the mattes. The "edit matte" option when I right click is grayed out.

More amazingly, I can't believe that this is the first time I've ran up against this problem in 2 years...lol.

Thanks,
Jason

...just wanted to clarify these are mattes created in the matte tool.

Thanks,

Yes there is... its a bit clunky but after working it out you soon realise that backing up all your small video files (stills ,inscriber & mattes etc) is a better way.
Anyway, to access a matte that is associated with an instance simply drag it into a bin, right click and then you can choose edit matte. This saves a matte to a bin that you can drag back onto the original instance.
Its a bit of a task but the only way to go sometimes.
Cheers

p.s. still a great box

Helping others gives you good cowma.

Thanks Butch. Yeah, that is pretty clunky, but at least it works...
