[Jeff Cohen]"Question 1: Has anybody out there edited HD footage from the HVX200 with the new M100 HDe system? "
Not in a real-world project, but we have tested P2 material from this camera with the V11.5 release. This works very smoothly if you are shooting in one of the supported framerates/sizes.
[Jeff Cohen]"Question 2: Are there advantages to editing with FInal Cut Pro over M100 HDe? Looking for opinions."
There are some advantages in using FCP, and there are some advantages using Media 100 HD; it just depends on what you want to do and where you feel comfortable. With both solutions you should consider one thing: you need to test your workflow before shooting!!!
These new variable formats (P2, XDCam and even HDV in some parts) have so many options that you quickly can get locked into a format that is not supported by your editing system of choice. It is not anymore like in the BetaSP or even DV days, where all systems worked in PAL/NTSC resolutions and everything you fed into the systems could be used. Now if you really want to use the advantages of the new technologies you need to know their strengths and weaknesses, and you need to make sure that the interoperability between your tools is given. So test your workflow; shoot something with the settings you want to use, write down the settings, see if you get it into HDe (or the Media 100 Producer V11.5 trial version) and repeat this until you get a way that works smoothly and gives you the desired results.
