Another quick question for the 844X experts. I downloaded the trial version of Boris Red 4. The stand alone engine works fine. It is pretty cool. However when I attempt to open it within 844X the program disappears.(CRASH). I have tried adding it to the filter stack and dragging the filter from a bin to a clip. Both result in a crash.

Am I not accessing the plug in correctly? Any one else out there having trouble with the integration? Seems like some of you are having great success with this.

First, there is no documentation for RED and the 844/x so don't feel bad. It's a bit of a discovery process...

I'm not sure if I understand your problem. Start here:

- Check to be sure the Boris plug-in is in the following folder on your C drive: Program files/Media 100/844x/plug-ins/BorisRed4 AE.aex . If so, good... If not, reinstall with that folder as the install location.

- Properly installed in the 844/x plug-ins folder, loaded (watch the splash screen when the plug-ins load during program start - "Boris RED" should briefly appear), Boris RED should be available to you like any other filter. Experiment with by creating a color clip and appling RED to it. The RED Interface should load. From there, have fun with some text stuff. Be sure to hit the "apply" button on the bottom of the timeline before closing RED.

Other than that. I'm at a loss for an answer.

Thanks for the help! It did install to the correct plug in folder. I'll keep an eye on the splash screen to see if it is loading. I'll give one of the Boris guys a call if it still doesnt work.

The really strange thing is that we have 2 844X's. We installed it on both using the exact same method. It works perfectly on one and crashes the other. I've been considering doing a uninstall/re-install of 844X on the one as it works well most of the time but isn't as reliable as it should be. It has been prone to crashing the last few months.
