I'm looking at Avid MC. Unless something better comes out for HD. I may hold out a little longer.

Ive moved over to the Axio, does everything and more.

Axio is a great system but you can't do everything. You can't use Blend Modes in realtime, the Premiere Graph Editor is terrible, etc.... I can't see any system on the market now with the power of 844/X two years ago.

Seems like all the problems we were going to face with the 844's death really don't exist at all.
Being such a good box in the SD world and knowing there is really no performance/price comparison out there yet makes me think I would go out and buy another one tomorrow. Since HD is not yet entrenched in many of our workflows it just makes sense to stick it out with the 844. It will probably be used in full force at our facility for another year at least, so that means that the 844 has lasted about as long as one would expect a system to be used in a facility before upgrading systems anyway.
Well done 844.
Cheers
(ps still keen to know about any new systems out there that compare)

It still rocks. We have two systems running at full speed (thanks to Floh), generating revenue. I really can't see how we would have done the things we do today without thise systems.

I spoke to my old reseller a couple of days ago. He has been selling Final Cuts and Avids for three years now, and says that there still isn't a system out there that can do what the 844/X does. HD really isn't a big issue for us here in Norway yet, so our systems will carry on playing those four videostreams in real-time for at least 2-3 more years.

Still sweet.

Once you've tasted the fruit of 4 video tracks it's hard to expect much less. I would imagine that when this system amortizes there would be something comparable.
