Freeze frame doesn't work
on Jan 26, 2006 at 1:37:42 pm

I have been using FF just fine until this show...

Suddenly, when I select FF from the Source or Record window and hit OK... nothing happens. No save to dialoge box, no file is created anywhere,... nothing.

I have restarted the program, restarted the machine (warm & cold), defragged and rebuilt the registry. The next thing I can think of is to reload the software.

One thing that is worrying me is that the partion (1 of 4) on my array that the media sits in is almost full. I have enabled another partion in the Hall of Green Balls but it isn't helping.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

Try it with a fresh clip in a fresh project. Maybe your project is corrupted...

When I get this problem, I always delete the .wrk file saved in your project folder. This file is the preferences file for this particular project and doesn't affect others. Always works fine with this trick.

Floh & Drollo,

Thanks for the advice. It seems to be happening mostly with one particular very full bin. Also the partition that this project's media is on is nearly full, which I understand isn't an optimal way to work. I'll trouble shoot it in a new project next, Floh. Drollo, I always thought that the .wrk file was just a workspace prefs file but if it contains all the prefs for the project (whatever they are), that will probably do the trick. I'll give it a shot when I get to a safe place with the project.

Lastly, the entire program has been a bit flaky lately. Is there a master prefs file I can trash that might help this?

BTW, Boris is Beta siting RED v4 on the 844/x! John's blog has something on it. I'm out vacationing and shooting over the next 2 months so I don't think I'm going to be much help.

Thanks for still being here!

*sigh*

The .wrk file stores little more than the window position and state
of the user interface layout. You know, things like where the project
window is, what bins you had open, and so forth. Contrary to popular
belief, application preferences are NOT stored in the .wrk file.

OK... so help the Windows newbie out here.

If they are not in the .wrk file, where are they? Will trashing them help the specific problem I am having (freeze frame not working) and the general program instability problems I am having.

Thanks!

If you go to Control Panels, you can find a 844/X Site Preferences where you send your preferences file. You can choose a new name and a new destination and you get a new preferences file.

Hope this helps!!

Cool. I'm assuming that I can just go to the folder and trash the prefs and acheive the same thing.
Thanks!
