M100 xe & AE video output problem
on Oct 18, 2005 at 9:31:21 am

Hi all.I have a serious issue with the M100 video output and AE 6.5.
Many times especially this one where i have 10 bmp pictures scaled and dissolving beetween them in an AE project. Sounds easy right? well, when i am using the 844/xe PAL video output AE is crashing. When i am disabling the video output and have only desktop preview its working great. So i am guessing that this is not an AE problem but an incompatibility between 844xe ver. 3.0.4 & AE 6.5.
Is there any solution? PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanx

srfval,
I'm having the same problem and I'm affraid there isn't any solution with this machine other then don't use the video preview option.

It's a shame but I guess we need to life with this bug.

Best,

J

Hi,

What setup are you using? I've found that the video output with AE 6.5 to be tempremental at best, but handled with kid gloves it's been useable. Using an XW8000, nVidia 400 Quadro graphics card and the latest versions of the software here.

Always remember to set Video Preview to "Desktop Only" before quitting AE (though I think if you don't then the preview will be disabled anyway :o/ )

Check also your graphics card drivers. Not directly Preview related, but has caused more than enough random AE crashes than I'd like to experience. I also tend not to use OpenGL acceleration too often!

As ever, YMMV but that might be useful to you.

Thanks,
Ben

thanx Ben for ur answer. The problem exists very often when i am using many photoshop layers in one composition and i found now that it happens also when i am using many still bmp images.
When i am using mov files and the rest from AE its working great.
Do u think that if i disable the openGL from AE will help?

As I said, this may not be *the* solution, but it's interesting to see that my graphics card isn't officially supported by Adobe.

I'm currently using the nVidia 7.0.7.8 driver, have openGL disabled and haven't managed to crash out the Video Preview all morning (cross fingers!)

Try disabling OpenGL, it can't hurt!

We have had similar problems working with AE 6.5.
We wound up going with the 'Test Gear' plugin from
Synethetic Aperture.

http://www.synthetic-ap.com/products/tg/index.html

Give you waveform, vectorscope, curves, histograms,
etc. in AE. It's not the same as having it on
your video monitor, but it's been the next best
thing for us.

One note, though. We have noticed that if we set
our levels according to Test Gear in AE, when we
bring the render into our non-linear package it is
usually hotter by about 3 - 5 IRE. Easy to deal
with but just so you know.

Good luck,

Thanx alot guys!
Its nice to know that i am not alone in this world!!!

BTW, i disabled OpenGL from AE and it seems to be working. Another thing i did was to enable only the "Previews" and the "Interactions" under Video Preview.

Just out of curiosity...

What version of QuickTime are you all running?
