Just because it worked before doesn't mean it will always work. H.264 and FCP 7 are unpredictable. No knowing how it will mess up. Loss of sync when trying to edit...loss of sync when trying to export. Render errors when rendering, or export errors when exporting.

Sometimes changing the sequence setting to ProRes and rendering will fix the issue, but it doesn't always work.

Third party software to look for...Perian is one. It can cause issues. Also, trash your preferences, that tends to solve a lot of odd issues. Preference Manager from digitalrebellion.com does it with one button click, and you don't have to dig into three locations deep in the Library folder to find the files.
