Poor quality 1080i video (NTSC/PAL)
on Apr 22, 2013 at 8:53:31 pm

Hi everyone

I have a video footage in 1920x1080i, 29,95i frame rate (NTSC standard). I will finally convert this to a PAL standard, since I live in Europe.

I edit in Final Cut Pro 10.0.8. I create a new project with the original settings and the result in the viewer is ok. A little bit of stuttering when panning and a little blurry, but still ok.

If I share this directly to a DVD and view it on my PAL TV screen using a Sony Blue-ray, the result is much poorer - especially when it comes to stuttering. If I share it to a master file with ProRes 422, the result is terrible with a lot of vertical stripes. I also tried "Send to Compressor" (4.0), but the process stops in Compressor after approx 30 seconds. I also tried to import the master file directly into Compressor and convert it to 25fps (PAL), with the same bad result (stuttering and stripes).

I use OS X 10.8.3, Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8 and Compressor 4.0.7.

I am stuck. Can anyone help?

Sounds for one thing like you have your field order reversed.
