About how to sell video footage
on Aug 22, 2012 at 10:45:51 pm

A video footage is generally a variety of video clips which have been taken by you and of which copyrights you own. People who enjoy filming randomly or own a number of random clips often consider selling their videos also called footage to different online companies, which offer to sell your video clip. These companies can be anything from a business to a news bureau. Thus you can make money by selling your footage in the same way you can make money by selling your pictures. The ‘New Kid onthe block’, so to speak is an online News Bureau which represents anyone with a cell phone or a camera who captures content. This 'People’s News Bureau' has a specific focus on news and news-worthy videos and photos. They require an exclusive because they have such a strong focus on selling to the media, most particularly to Television. They can get you a much higher return as they are ‘In the Business’. Also because they specialize in news, their ‘Exclusive’ request is time wise very short (3 weeks) as news are short lived. You can live with that.

- First gather any and every type of video clips which you would want to sell. But before going ahead with the process you would have to ensure that the clips have been taken by you and no one else and that you enjoy the copyrights to them. Clips of events, time lapse, nature and people oriented sell rather well. However the highest revenues come from news-oriented segments, news opinion, news events such as politics, sports, entertainment, accidents, weather etc… So,as you are forging ahead with the process of selling video clips make sure the subject you select is an interesting one if it happens not to be in the news category..

- Keep all your videos which you wish to sell in one folder on your desktop.

- Create a list of the various websites which allow videographers to upload and sell their footage. Websites such as,, etc. are some example. Seek out the sites which offer at least 40% royalty on each sale of your video that you have uploaded. offers 60% which is fantastic since they can get a real high value for your footage. Also Mozatros lets you post your video onother sites but you have to specifically say that the clip you have posted is for sale by Mozatros exclusively. Otherwise your video or photo loses most of its commercial ‘real’ value.

- Since your goal is to make good money by selling your videos and photos, select those sites which offer the best returns. Do not submit your footage if you don’t like what they offer.

Generally speaking a non-exclusive agreement is a good idea when selling video footage, however I would say is a special animal for the reasons explained above. Videos and photos, most particularly news oriented one, can bring you huge profits.

When it comes to stock footage I would recommend that readers of this site support the COW. Especially since the COW helps us all the time. Check out the stock yard which is available here:
