Problems exporting to Pro Res HQ
on Sep 20, 2011 at 2:14:57 pm

I need to export a collection of short films to a ProRes HQ 1080 master (either 1080i or 1080p, doesn't matter). All of the short films are different sizes--most are 720x480, but a couple are 720x540, and one is 960x720. They are also a mix of different codecs--most are DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, but a couple are Apple ProRes 422, a couple are Animation, one is H.264, and one is DVCPRO HD 720p60.

When I export, there are serious issues in quality loss/visual noise, and there are also little aspect ratio issues, like some vertical squeezing in some of the shorts.

Would love any advice on how I should set up my sequence before exporting--ie, with what codec?

And then, does the FCP exporter just automatically lead to serious quality loss? Should I export the sequence in some other way and then use a different program, like Sorenson Squeeze, to make the Pro Res file?

Thank you for any help you might be able to offer!

You can't avoid quality depreciation doing upscaling from as low-res picture as 720 by 48 up to hi-res 1920 by 1080.
