Which video formats FCP accepts?

Hi Creativecow community,

I have just started learning Final Cut Pro.And I am planning to buy my first handycam camcorder.But I am a bit confused about it.Because cameras provide output in various formats like MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI etc.

I would be very thankful if somebody could tell me which all video formats FCP accepts happily.

None of those. You must convert to a format FCP works with. And that list is found in the EASY SETUPS...in the FINAL CUT PRO menu. You use applications like MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert the footage to a workable format, like ProREs. I have a tutorial on that here:
