What format should I export my MTS files to for FCP?
on Apr 27, 2011 at 12:35:44 pm

Hi folks, apologies for the newbie question.

I have a JVC camcorder that produces footage in MTS files. I've dragged these MTS files from my camera, onto my desktop.

I know I need to export these files so FCP can use them.

What would you say the best format is? I see in other threads MPEG4 is not recommended, because it's a delivery format, rather than a production format.

I was going to choose Quicktime Movie, but then I see the software produces Quicktime files using H.264, which I also understand isn't a good format for editing in FCP.

Any ideas What production format should I convert my MTS files to?

Thanks

Ian

Convert them to ProRes Mov files.
