why would my 16:9 hd sequence in fcp export as 4:3 when uncompressed

I exported a fcp file using qt movie export, uncompressed 8-bit. The file had the sequence settings 1280x720 hdtv 720p (16:9) and once exported it became 4:3.

does anyone know how i can avoid this? i shot the video with a canon t1i in hd format so i thought the original footage was also 16:9.

hope my question makes sense.

thanks!

Why are you exporting as uncompressed HD? Have you checked the size settings in the export window? Could be to do with that

thanks thomas.

the reason i exported uncompressed is that i wanted a high quality video and had read that this was the way to do it. i'm working with a 5:14 minute video loop so when uncompressed it's 6.6 gb. but then in order to burn the dvd i put it into compressor and then into dvd studio pro and was able to adjust the display size in studio pro to 16:9. when it played in a dvd player the quality looked perfect but at times it was horribly pixelated.

unfortunately, when exporting i don't have the option to export using compressor. i'm using fcp 7 but it doesn't appear as an option.

any suggestions on how i can get high quality video to run on a dvd player for several hours without issue?

much appreciated!

1280x720 is OK if the pixels are SQUARED.
Have a look to the QT Info window, or import the movie back to FC and have a look to the clips settings.

Thanks Rafael.

And yes the pixels are squared. If 1280x720 is just OK are there better options that you would suggest for maintaining high quality video, 16:9? it's a 5:14 min video shot in HD.

At 1280x720 square pixels the image must shows perfectly 16x9 in QT Player.
If is not like that, open the Clip Properties and try the adjust the size on display.
