Sequence Settings - Pro Res 422 and Codec Not Found

Does Pro Res 422 have limitations when rendering? Is there something else I should be aware of.

Here's the issue:

I just edited a quick training video for a company comprised mostly of their still photos, plus a half dozen pieces of AVI and MOD video I converted to QT Pro Res 422. When I went to render the sequence, I got the "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."

I remedied my problem by switching from Apple Pro Res 422 as the compressor setting, to Media 100 NTSC 720 (my legacy system.)

Here are the sequence settings I was using that did NOT work:

720x486 CCIR 601 NTSC (40:27)
Square Pixels
No Field Dominance (most images are photos)
29.97 fps

Compressor: Apple Pro Res 422

The only difference in what did work was switching the compressor to the Media 100 codec.

I also just finished a production in 1080i that rendered in Pro Res 422 with in problems.

Thanks!

That error message is usually not related the the timeline codec, but the codec of the media in the timeline. You can't compress (or recompress) with out first Decompressing.

Try rendering each clip one at a time to determine what AVI, Still, or MOD isn't rendering. Trying converting that into another format using Compressor or another app - they may be able to read it. Then, bring that back into FCP, and you should be fine.

How are you getting MOD files in....?

I tried removing each video to see if that was the problem. It wasn't. The rest of the clips are jpeg images. Have not tried removing each of those.

I converted the MOD using MPEG Streamclip. The AVIs were converted using QT 7. All were converted to QT Pro Res 422.

Can't thing of anything else to try. - If you do, holler. Thanks!

Side note - for quickly locating a bad clip in the timeline: Copy the sequence. From the COPY - remove all clips from the 1st half of the timeline. If the problem remains, remove 1/2 of the clips from the second half of the timeline. Still got a problem? It's in the final 1/4 of the timeline. Obviously if it disappears it's in what you most recently removed. So it's a good idea to remove by cutting - then you can paste the problematic collection in a new sequence and start removing by halves again.

Make sure that QT Pro is active and Prores show up on the list of available codecs.

Rafael - About QuickTime shows the Q/PRO logo - (QT 7.6.4) and I have both Pro Res 422 and Pro Res 422 (HQ) showing in the list of available codecs.

I think I'm going to have to do the Clip Search. (Sort of like the Perp Walk for l recalcitrant clips).

Other thoughts welcome ...

Trashed the prefs two projects ago but could certainly take another load to the dumpster...

720x486 is not square pixels... change your aspect to CCIR-601

I'm a newbie and bad at compression settings, but this problem has come up on me twice lately and I've fixed it by going to sequence>sequence settings>QT compression settings and dinking between major settings until the timeline will render.
