FCE-Compatible with H.264?
on Oct 7, 2010 at 11:14:55 pm

I am completely new to video editing. I recently returned from a bicycle journey across Africa and want to combine my footage in to trailer. Everything was shot using a Full-HD Sanyo camera. I am not sure whether this is enough information, but it is in MP4 format, dimensions 1920X1080 and codec H.264 AAC, bitrate 12,127. I have no idea what any of this means, I just want to know how to put it into FCE such that I can work with it. Currently, when I drag it in there are lots of horizontal fuzzy lines throughout the picture. What should I do?

Thank you so much!

-Aaron

The media from this camera is not supported in FCE. You need to use MPEG Streamclip to convert it to QuickTime using the Apple Intermediate Codec.

All the best,

Would the video format be supported by FCP?

[Aaron Bodansky] "Would the video format be supported by FCP?"
Yes, but Tom recommends you the AIC because you said you were going FCE.
If you go to FCP, transcode to Prores.
The AIC is really crappy.

So then once I use streamclip and transcode the footage to AIC, what "easy setup" option should I use for FCE? There are lots of choices. Do I still use one the HD ones?

So I set my "Easy setup" to AIC, then used the option "HDV-AIC 1080i60". But when I import the file i still see flickering. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
