h264 compression problem
on Oct 5, 2010 at 6:39:34 pm

I am exporting my final render out of FCP .mov with h264 compression set to highest but for some reason my colors are getting washed out. This is first compression I have done on this video everything is out of AE full quality. The file looks great there but out of final cut the colors are not the same

This is the imfamous QT Gamma Shift. Google that one and see what all the fuss is about.

In the QT Preferences, set "Enable compatibility with FC colors".

Read a lot on the subject and found several ways to fix it but none of them worked. I bought quicktime pro and went through all of the steps from Video Copilot, checked the "Enable compatibility with FC colors" box and even downloaded x264 plugin and followed those steps. My video is still washed out. Why even do all the detailed color correction if its not going to turn out right. Any other suggestions would be great. I'm totally disgusted right now

Hi Mitch,
You can try the conversion with Compressor.
It has a gamma filter that you can adjust, and a Preview window.

Ok I will try compressor. Thanks Rafael. Here is my last question. How do I render out full quality in FCP. Is proress the best. My file is 1280X720 usually straight from my JVC HM700. Thanks for your help

Uncompressed would be better than Prores, but is not a practical solution.
