Save, Save All, Auto Save?
on Jun 8, 2010 at 7:48:29 pm

I've noticed that just because my project auto saves from time to time, the project is not really saved. If I close my project down after an auto pop up save window appears, and I don't manually save it. My work will not be saved. Why is that?

Then on the key board saves. In the drop down window when I select "Save All" I see the short cut for command S. But if you only click command S do you truly "all save?" Or ... what? Because in the drop down window it not only shows the picture of the command key, it also shows a dash and a squigly line that's not anywhere on the key board.

So when I click the command S, I still worry I'm not saving the entire project and do the manual save all every time I completely shut down.

Thanks for any clarifications,
Vinnie

Autosave automatically saves a copy of your project to the Autosave vault, not the project file you are currently working with. You can adjust how many saves it keeps and how often. This is in case your project file gets corrupt, or if your project crashes, you can go into the Autosave vault and grab your project as it was 5 minutes ago, or maybe 25 minutes ago, whatever.

Save (Cmd+S) saves the project you currently are working in.

Save all (Cmd+Opt+S) Saves all projects currently open. That squiggly thing is option, or alt.

Cmd+S will save your project just fine, though I know some people remap Cmd+S to Save All just to make sure they are saving everything at once as they switch between several projects currently open.

Hi Vinnie,
Neither I understand the difference "Save" "Save All".
But don't worry, when you Save (Com-S), the project gets properly saved.
Perhaps the "Save ALL" is for when you have more than one open project.

[Rafael Amador] "Perhaps the "Save ALL" is for when you have more than one open project. "

That would be correct... Chalk another one up for Rafa.

Okay, now where's that ham you promised?

I'm a compulsive "save all-er" no matter how many projects I have open. Nothing sucks more than to do a bunch a complicated edits, crash from some random reason and lose it all because you missed the autosave.
