ProRes versus ProRes HQ
on Apr 20, 2010 at 1:59:52 am

I shot an interview with a canon R2i 1920x1080 24p. I converted with MPEGStreamclip to ProRes HQ. I knew the file sizes would be huge, but I wasn't expected anything this big. I want the best quality I can get, but I am thinking this is over kill. Would I be better off with just using Prores or even Prores LT?

ProRes HQ is for very high end 10-bit recording formats, like AVCIntra and Red. Or things destined for film or digital projection. For DSLRs, DVCPRO HD, HDV, XDCAM...ProRes is JUST fine. ProRes LT is what I use with my T2i, as my videos are destined for the web.

What if this was to air on TV? Is ProRes enough? Thanks for the response

[Brad Mirman] "What if this was to air on TV? Is ProRes enough?"

Absolutely. I delivered over 60 shows mastered with ProRes. DVCPRO HD is good enough, and it is a lesser codec.
