Timecode breaks on dvcpro tapes
on Feb 23, 2010 at 1:49:27 am

Hello,

We're digitizing DVCpro 126L tapes with a Panasonic AJ-SD930 and keep getting TC breaks. FCP will continue digitizing 3 seconds later. There are no breaks and it stops at random durations.

We are using DV settings through firewire.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Thanks,

Dave

Cleaned the deck's heads lately? There should be a little LED indicator that indicates drop-out compensation is being applied. Does it flicker a lot?

And, you're not using re-used tapes are you? Personally, I've found all of the DV formats to handle re-used tapes poorly.

Just to add my 2 cents to Mark's good suggestion, you might consider having the heads cleaned professionally (versus using a head-cleaning tape).
