Final Cut Express audio problems

I pulled a song from i-tunes as a soundtrack to a video but it just sounds bad - it has a heavy bass so maybe that adds to it but it sounds distorted. Don't think it's a sample rate issue as i-tunes should play nice with FCE right...? Any ideas on how to fix/adjust...? Am a bit of a newbie so step by step would be best ;)

"Don't think it's a sample rate issue as i-tunes should play nice with FCE right...? "

Wrong. You need to convert the audio to AIFF at the sample rate of your FCE sequence, either 48k, or if you're using it, 32k.

All the best,

Thanks Tom - didn't know that, very helpful.
Can I make that conversion after dragging the file into FCE from itunes or before...? Any step by step advice would be great.
AD.
