[Michael Hoopingarner]"Is there any way to edit in the following way;
cut to shreds a single long file in the timeline. then add effects to the original long file and it updates the added effect to all the already cut pieces in the timeline? "
[Michael Hoopingarner]"I know about paste attributes but that is a hassle when there are multiple small clips (from different master clips) all shoved together in the timeline"
Ahh, sorry. Editing is a task that takes time.
[Michael Hoopingarner]"the context is this: making music video and client wants to try a bunch of different looks after the editing is finished. "
Yup...this is how things are done. Edit, lock picture, then color correct. And then you need to color correct each shot. If you used COLOR you could save your grades and apply them as you go along in the timeline, if not, you can copy the grade, then FIND all the instances that a certain CLIP NAME (one angle for example) occurs, and then paste. FIND has an option to highlight EVERYTHING, so you can add all at once. But still, go through shot by shot to make sure that lighting didn't change slightly, or that you didn't paste to the wrong clip.
