If you have VLC video player, this bit of software will also convert to a variety of formats, not sure it'll do pro res but it will convert to .mov which you'll then be able to take into FCP.
VLC is free and if you google it you'll be able to download the latest version and then if you go to youtube and put in video converting with vlc, you'll come across a video tutorial which will help you do this.
