AVI to MOV

We are moving our Television production from a pc based editing platform to a Final Cut platform.

We have a lot of legacy programs stored as AVI's. We also have matching closed-captioning files.

Our plan is when a re-run comes up we will import the captioning files and the AVI files into FCP and master new programs to tape.

What does FCP think of AVI's from DVCpro programs?

What do we need to do to insure the best quality, speed and reliability?

Thanks

Larry

Larry,

The AVI files will be best transcoded using Compressor. In the Settings directory go to Formats>>QuickTime, and select the Apple ProRes 422 preset. It is a smart preset that senses the resolution of the source file and should transcode appropriately without any human intervention.

Test it out on a smaller file first, and go from there...

I'm not sure about handling closed captions, you may want to ask a separate question about that on the FCP Forum.

Hope this helps...

David

[David Roth Weiss] "I'm not sure about handling closed captions, you may want to ask a separate question about that on the FCP Forum."

Or the new Closed Captioning forum!
