Display / Gamma Settings My HD Footage Looks Very Dark

Howdy all!

I have Snow Leapord on the 24" Desktop w/Final Cut Pro 6.06 / Studio 2. I was extremely shocked when my 1920 x 1080 AVCHD footage (logged & transferred to Pro Res 422) appeared so much darker than it did when we shot it. We shot our footage using natural light, an HD Monitor & the cameras view finder when lighting. We shoot on the Panasonic HMC150. It's about a $4000 camera. Our scenes looked fantastic.

But upon import my footage looks very dark in Final Cut, and a little dark in Color.

My Mac is set the IMac calibrated display profile that it shipped with.

If I change my gamma from 2.2 to 1.8 my footage looks much better.

If I use the Adobe RGB (1998) settings the image really looks good. Very close to when we shot it.

What are the common settings used for editing in Final Cut and then color correcting in COLOR? I found this article that recommends using 1.8 while editing in final cut and then back to 2.2 when using shake. But what about Color?

My final output is mostly the web and DVD since I work with actors and small producers.

Thanks for the help.
