DV Mini audio compatibility problems
on Apr 6, 2016 at 7:47:45 pm

Hi
We working with mini-dv documentary footage that was digitized either using 48KHz or 32KHz so that the mov files can not be edited on the same timeline without rendering. Too much material to re-digitize. If we convert material to prores that bloats the data and we are already daisy chaining drives. Any suggestions? Also we are getting different Audio Rates. For example: 32kHz vs. 31.999KHz. Why does this happen?
Many Thanks!

i generally found that capturing the 32k tapes at 48k worked out fine.
it might be to late or you to re-capture?

but hang on….
"48KHz or 32KHz so that the mov files can not be edited on the same timeline without rendering"

are you talking about just the audio?
generally the fix there is to up the number of RT Audio tracks in your FCP user preferences.
the default set to a laughably conservative 8.

if you are saying the video needs rendering, then there i something else at play.

Hi Nick! Yes the audio does not playback in time line if there are both 32kHz and 48 clips. FCP wants to render timeline first. The rest of your reply goes over my head...I'm short! Also some clips digitized as 31999.4hz and 2Hz. Thank you kindly for your time and advice

"generally the fix there is to up the number of RT Audio tracks in your FCP user preferences."

open FCP's user preferences (option Q)
one of the items on the first page is "Number of Real Time Audio Tracks"
by default it's set to 8, which is crazily low.
make it 16, see what happens.

i generally work with it at 24, at least.

cheers,
nick

Hi Nick! Thanks for your feedback. I tried increasing number of tracks but this does not seem to resolve the problem so I took a screen shot with notes. Hopefully the screen shot will post!

did you go to this page (image attached), and change the "Real Time Audio Mixing" to 24 or higher?

i see you have a lot of copies of the clip stacked.
get rid of them, and just have the one instance.
