How to lose unwanted audio tracks
on Feb 18, 2016 at 3:16:31 am

Hello,
I am a shooter. Occasionally, under protest, I have to cut my material on the field. Sometimes, I have to do it really fast. And that's where I am dealing with the issue like that:
My camera, SONY FS7 records 8 channels of audio. I only need first 2. Now, every clip imported into FCP7 has 8 channels. So, i have to place them onto the timeline, unsync them, delete unwanted tracks, sync them again. It slows down the process tremendously. I know there's a way to lose all unwanted audio tracks in the editor window. Or possibly even while importing. Please, help.
Thanks,
Vic

User prefs, timeline options, look to the right hand side and pick the default number of audio tracks you want.

Do you use Log and Transfer to bring in the footage? In the audio tab of that you can tell FCP to only import the tracks you want.

what Shane says

OR,
if you really want to get rid of those empty tracks for good from the master file
use an app called QTChange
http://www.videotoolshed.com/product/42/qtchange

"i have to place them onto the timeline, unsync them, delete unwanted tracks, sync them again. It slows down the process tremendously"

there is a quicker way:
lock the picture,
lock the 1st 2 audio tracks,
select all, delete.

then…

copy all in the timeline
delete the original clips from the browser,
copy the 2tk clips into a new bin.
now you have 2tk master clips, and match framing should bring up the 2tk version.

Thank you, all. I am importing XDCAM files. So, someone suggested in preferences to check "Import only 1/2. that's exactly what i needed. Thank you for your help!
