Exporting to Full screen while keeping ratio
on Nov 17, 2015 at 11:08:29 am

Hi guys,
Quick question regarding a video im currently working on. I shot a video with a Panasonic AVCHD Cam. I shot in 1080p. All looks well with the video but my client is asking me if there is any way I can export the video to full screen while keeping a 16 x 9 ratio. He believes the current export looks a little squished?? Ill post the video link below. Any help you guys can offer is greatly greatly appreciated.

totally squished!

have you tagged the clips as "anamorphic"
you shouldn't, as they're not.

select all the clips in the timeline,
hit Option Command V, which will open the "remove Attributes" box
select "Distortion" (Maybe its already selected?)
hit ok.

if you have deliberately distorted some of the clips for whatever reason, you will lose that now,
so you'll need to revisit those clips.

Yeah, 2.35:1 may look all artsy-fartsy and cool, but hey -- you have to plan for it. You didn't.
The girls in those shots will will constitute a lynch mob if they get a look at how fat they appear. Lose the vertical scaling.

Thanks Dave. Im still in learning mode so I really appreciate the feedback. How do I lose the vertical scaling? Is there a way of doing so in fcp?
Thanks again,
Jerry

Thanks Nick. I tried the above option but it made no difference to my video. I changed the sequence settings and it has seemed to do the trick!

If your edit timeline is NOT in a 16:9 aspect ratio, you'll need to make one. 1280x720, 1920x1080, whatever. It all depends on the dimensions listed for your footage in the FCP Browser.

Copy the clips from the old edit timeline into the new one. They'll still look goofy. Fix the first clip in the timeline. Hitghlight it and Copy. Then Highlight the rest of the clips. Use the Paste Attributes command on them. They should all be fixed.
