mov size for fcp
on Sep 9, 2015 at 8:11:51 pm

Hi all
I have filmed a corporate and the mov i converted to is 40gb. My mac isnt the fastest and just cant handle this size for editing speed. The final video will only really be used for internal and web purposes.

Any suggestions regsrding what i could reduce the file down to? I have compressor and the original 20min file was shot on 1080i 25p on the z7 and the resulting mp4 converted to mov in MPEG STREAMCLIP

thanks for any help

"I have filmed a corporate and the mov i converted to is 40gb."

This sounds like you took all the clips you shot, put them end-to-end, and made then into one large quicktime movie in an undetermined codec.

Perhaps you can clarify......

It would also be helpful to know what you used to pull this off.

Bear in mind that FCP performs best using the ProRes family of codecs.

FCP needs the file to be ProRes for editing purposes. Just get an external hard drive, Firewire 800, if you don't have one already, and put it on there. No fast computer is needed for this.
