Converting NTSC 1080i 60 footage to PAL with Nattress plug-in
on Sep 3, 2015 at 12:37:34 am

I searched for a complete answer for this before I posted and couldn't find one.
I need to convert a NTSC 1080 60 piece that my client has permission to edit into PAL for broadcast.
I downloaded the Nattress Standards Conversion plug-in and followed their written instructions, but part of the footage that consists of zooming text is being cut off after the conversion.

My flow is:

Putting the NTSC on a PAL timeline in FCP 7 (largest frame available is 720 x 576, correct?)

Nesting the footage

Opening the Nattress plug-in and setting it to the listed parameters then dropping the source footage into the well

Rendering and exporting the footage

Importing the converted footage and performing the edit

Am I missing something here?

"part of the footage that consists of zooming text is being cut off after the conversion."

not sure if you mean the frame is being cropped,
or of the duration is shorter than expected.

you could write to Graeme (Nattress)
he's very helpful

After editing, does the delivered product need to be HD or SD?

Only if you want SD. If your footage is HD, us a 1920x1080 25fps timeline.

That's exactly what I was thinking. The only difference between NTSC 1080-60i and PAL 1080-50i is the frame rate. If someone asked you to convert HD NTSC footage into PAL I would assume they want PAL HD not SD. So all you need to do is change the frame rate. No cropping should occur at all because NTSC and PAL HD are both 1920x1080.
