How can I move a portion of scratch file?
on May 10, 2015 at 5:23:45 am

Dear everyone.

I am editing documentary. I have more than 70 hours of footage.

I use i Mac with Lion and plural eyes version 2.1. on FCP7.0

I am using five of 2TB portable HDs in a daisy chain.

I put another portable HD when the scratch disk is almost full.

Yesterday I encounter the technical problem with following error message.

" XML document error"

Failed to write XML document to/Volumes/WSHD1/pluraleyes/Project.XML

I checked the WSHD1 disk and I found this HD is completely full.

WSHD1 disk has capture scratch file and plural eyes file.

I also tried to save the final cut project and saw I/O error.

I guess plural eyes file made this HD full.

Now here are two advices I need from you.

1) If I want to move "Plural eyes file" to somewhere else or extend
it to somewhere else, can I do? and if I can, how can I?

2) If I want to move a portion of the capture scratch file since
this file takes most of this HD, can I do? and if I can, how can
I? I prefer not to move whole capture scratch file since it is
almost 2TB and takes too much time and 2TB is the size of reliable
portable HD with fire wire and available to me.

Please advise what I should.

Thank you very much for reading this when you are so busy.

do you need those plural eyes files?

once it's done it;s job, i get rid of them.
thats an option when you close the pluraleyes project.

as an aside, i find that PLurleyes messes with my clips, and they can lose their master / affiliate relationship.
so once i;ve got a properly synced sequence, (after i check and fix what come back from pluraleyes)
i actually replace every clip with a fresh instance.
i use a quickkeys macro to help with that.

other than that, it;s relatively simple to move your files from one drive to another.

you can do it from within FCP, using the Media Manager,
or just at the finder level, then reconnect in FCP.
thats what i do.

Thank you for answering my question.

I have a question.

In case, I would like to bring all daisy chained portable disks, which has all info, to a lab to finish up editing, I still don't need the file?

Atsushi

PS. I will look into media manager and probably that will do what I need though..

the files PLuraleyes creates is used to sync the clips.
after they've been synced, I'm not sure why you'd need them.

they are not needed by sound post, or picture post.

i havent needed them, and i'm also working on a doc with hours and hours of footage.

copy / paste is the simplest method.
media manager has too many issues.

Nick:

I just managed to solve the problem by "cut and paste" and "reconnect"
as you advised!

Thank you!
