DVCProHD P2 footage transfer to Apple ProRes 422 in Log&Transfer?
on May 1, 2015 at 8:49:47 pm

Hello all,

I have some footage recorded on P2 cards with an HVX200. I copied the card contents and did a log and transfer test on FCP 7. It transferred the footage into DVCPRO HD but I would like to transfer to ProRes 422.

In the log & transfer window I went to preferences selected P2 Plugin (P2 AVC-Intra) to Target format: Apple ProRes 422 but it doesn't affect the actual transfer format. I shut down FCP and started again but doesn't change.

Should I trans my FCP preferences ? Maybe the P2 AVC-Intra plugin is not the one at work in this transfer ? (But all my other Source formats are selected to target to Apple ProRes 422.

Any ideas ?

Sorry, DVCPRO HD P2 only comes in as DVCPRO HD. You can't transcode upon ingest. You can convert after, by using the Media manager.

AVCIntra P2 can be converted...but the HVX-200 doesn't shoot AVCIntra.

Hello Shane,

Thanks for the info.

Do you think there would be a benefit of going through converting to pro res 422 with the Media manager or it doesn't serve any purpose ? For info the video will not be polished like crazy in post to look amazing... Just editing, some titles maybe made in After Effects and basic colour grading.

Best,
Alex

No. There will be no benefit to transcoding to ProRes. That'll just add a layer of compression.
