Cinema Tools: 60fps to 24fps - can't conform ProRes clip
on Feb 19, 2015 at 3:33:47 pm

I use Final Cut Stuido and recently purchased an A7s. I had to download an app (Aiseesoft HD Converter) to convert my XAVC-S test clips to ProRes (as my version of Compressor won't support). This all worked out fine and now I can work with my test clips in FCP 7.

While working with a 60fps clip I tried to conform to 24fps in Cinema Tools. However, the conform button isn't highlighted. Trying to make this as simple as possible for those who can help. If there are any suggestions/observations please help. I can't seem to find a remedy. ProRes files from my Canon cameras have all worked fine conforming in Cinema Tools.

Here's the main reason why --

I just looked up that transcoder's info:
http://www.aiseesoft.com/hd-converter-for-mac/reference.html

And I will be darned if I can find where it transcodes to Quicktime movies in the ProRes 422 codec. It'll make QT's, but says nothing about codecs. I don't think you have the files you need to have.

You're working with an editing application that's darned near five years old. It hasn't been supported for about 3 of those 5 years. Sorry, but you can't expect miracles from it, especially when cameras and recording schemes keep advancing.

Now, it you want to use FCPX and a utility from Sony, you can do it.

Thanks, Dave. I have since narrowed it down to a codec problem as you said. That app I mentioned does specifically says "Apple ProRess 422" in it's many options.

Just for the heck of it I took the file I got out of Aiseesoft and put it in Compressor and the ProRes file that resulted from that worked in Cinema Tools. I don't think I'll be taking that route but I just wanted to see if it would work.

There has GOT to be some way FCP7 can still be friends with the world...

Oh, it still IS friends with the world. But it's getting tougher to make NEW friends, if you know what I mean....

All roads lead to Adobe at this point.

Jeez, I hope not. Renting software is just so wrong...

Necessary Evil in my case. I hate it too. I've tried three apps and none of them work for me. Adobe Media Encoder did the trick (downloaded the trial).
