Jagged edges in eps file in FCP 7
on Jan 23, 2015 at 8:53:34 pm

I have an eps file and I am trying to bring it into FCP 7 but the edges look jagged. I have tried a number of different things and nothing seems to work...

--I started with the file in illustrator and saved for web as a png file
--I have saved the file in photoshop, saved for web as a png file
--I have adjusted the size down in FCP 7 but still the same issue
--I have pulled the file into compressor after it's been saved as a png
--I have put the file into motion and exported as an mov file. It looks good there, but when I pull it into FCP I have the same issue. This leads me to believe it's a FCP issue

I have not had this issue with other files and would really appreciate any help. I have run out of creative solutions.

Find the originally imported file in the FCP Browser -- the one you intended to use all along. Highlight it. Look for the incorrectly-named Field Dominance column. Make sure it's set to None.

That ought to take care of it.

If you're cutting interaced video, you may have to change the FCP Preferences to show you both fields when you pause.

Apple ProRes 422 1920x1080 24p 48 kHz

The settings for the clip can be viewed here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qdia9r0pswu2czg/Screen%20Shot%202015-01-26%20at%2...

Thank you so much for taking a look at this. I really appreciate it!

A 634 x 182 resolution still file is pretty small for a 1920 x 1080 sequence. Is it intended to fill the frame and/or what percentage are you enlarging it?

I have tried with a much larger file size, and it still shows the jagged edges. I have tried it at 100% and also reduced down and still the same issue.

I see that alpha is set to straight for this .png but for the other .png files that don't seem to have issue it's set to white. Do you think this could be it?

Thanks for your reply Dave. The Field Dominance column is all set to none. So, I don't think that's the issue. Still trying to sort it out.
