I want to gradually enlarge some footage, Ken Burnishly, straightforwardly — that is, without the little swerves the program seems to imagine I want. How to persuade the program to quit doing that, please?

You use Motion. It's better at that than FCP is.

The "swerves" are due to Bezier curves, which you can change.

It's time to learn Motion.

It's a LOT better at this stuff than FCP. Improved image quality and the ability to use images larger then 4000 pixels on a side are BOTH well worth the time investment.

Adjusting those beziers in FCP is next to useless. Never as smooth as Motion or After Effects.

You have two choices:

1) read the manual
2) right click on the keyframes and see what you get

It is painful to edit those curves within Final Cut, but you can do it in "Image+Wireframe" view, after you've made the keyframes there will be path adjusters in the canvas window that you can move around to effect the path of the image. It will drive you crazy though.

All the best,

Rob
