Unable to Initialize Capture Device
on May 2, 2014 at 3:36:06 am

I received this message when trying to L and C from my external drive with files from a DSLR camera (i'm pretty sure it was a Canon but can find out if it matters)

Unable to Initialize Capture Device
Device is not connected or the capture preset is not setup correctly. You may still log offline clips.

This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.

Never happened before. however, I did have trouble with a scratch drive setting when I opened the FCP program.

Suggestions?

Log and CAPTURE is used when capturing from TAPE sources. DSLRs are tapeless. You need to use Log and TRANSFER

Brain freeze! Thanks for thawing it out.

however, now that I'm in L and T, shouldn't I be able to see the files in the window to begin the transfer or am I missing a step?
I'm tired and will attack this tomorrow but these may be AVCHD files from a DSLR

Thanks!

Which DSLR? Canon requires a Log and Transfer plugin to be installed. Some Panasonic ones shoot AVCHD that are compatible with L&T...depends

I'm trying to find out what camera was used.
meanwhile, some old folders show up when I open Log and Transfer.. not the new drive.

and can I import into imovie, edit a rough and export into fcp?
