Audio Render Issue -- reached render limit?
on Apr 3, 2014 at 11:11:31 pm

Hi there,

I tried searching for this issue and couldn't find a solution. I was handed a pretty large 38 MB documentary project to work on with a couple of sequences. The first cut of the film was split into a Part 1 sequence and a Part 2 sequence. Part 1 worked fine. With the same sequence settings, and even the same media, the audio in Part 2 needs to be rendered if moved. This only occurs with the main footage, which displays a rainbow of colors on the clip itself: orange, white, red, blue.

After experimenting, I've found that though the audio can be moved in Part 1 without a re render, if I add new content to the sequence, the render issue behaves the same. It makes me wonder whether I've hit some sort of "limit" on rendering audio. After trying a new project, or changing my scratch disk, though, the same thing occurs.

Here are the specs on the footage:

ProRes 422
29.97
48 KHz
32-bit Floating

I would appreciate anything that would allow me to edit on the second timeline without having to re render!

What does the browser say about the attributes of the Part 2 audio?

Alternately, have you trashed all the audio renders using the Render Manager?

The Part 2 audio footage is the same as the Part 1, really. (I should really refer to these things as Sequence 2 and Sequence 1). Both sequences are set to:

2 Outputs
48KHz
Depth: 24 bit
32 Bit Floating Point

And unfortunately it's not a problem of RT audio tracks. It's just the A Roll -- I'm only using the first four tracks. :/

Yeah, but FCP just behaves nicer with an audio render sometimes... and if you've taken over the project, who knows what the predecessor did? Using render manager to delete audio render files doesn't take very long.

are there any filters on the audio?
pitch correction, for instance uses up a lot of track allocation.

oh, and the real question is what is the format of the FOOTAGE?

up the number of real time audio tracks you can play in FCP in your user prefs

default is 8... measly!
