What's the preferred conversion tool. I read a lot of people are using stream clip. Are there others that people prefer? What about iskysoft or aiseesoft?

I haven't EVER seen iskysoft or aisesoft mentioned in this forum. That's a big clue to stay away from them.

Mpeg streamclip is good, but it depends on what you're trying to DO WITH IT. There isn't a one-size-fits-all transcoding tool.

FLV Crunch is handy, as is VLC.

Depends on the footage. MPEG STREAMCLIP does handle quite a bit of footage types, and can convert to many options. PLUS...it's free. Those other two are not.

But it cannot convert files in the MXF format, nor can it convert AVCHD...those need different converters.

I will say that MPEG STREAMCLIP is the best tool I've encountered, I use it for many purposes. Every professional environment I work in has it as a tool in their belt....er...computers.
