Changing a sequence to pro res from mpeg2 ... do i want profess 422 or prores 422 (HQ)?

422 is just fine. The exception: you plan to re-render the same file a dozen times or so. Then HQ's a good choice.

Most of the time HQ's sole virtue is that it takes up a lot more storage space with no improvement in image quality.

AS YOU CAN PROBABLY TELL I'M A PRODUCER WHO IS NOW EDITING MUCH OF HIS OWN STUFF AND TRYING TO LEARN THE TECH STUFF ON THE FLY. YOUR ASSISTANCE IS MUCH APPRECIATED.

Actually, this forum has seen the same questions asked by self-described "filmmakers".

In the midst of an edit. Doing it all wrong.

Thinking to themselves, "How tough can this stuff be, anyways? I have a vision!"

So don't feel bad. I've been tossed onto daily editing on Avid with ZERO training or knowledge of the basics behind it. I feel your pain.
