Multiple Color Changing Filter Effect
on Jan 17, 2014 at 4:52:04 pm

Hi,

I am trying to achieve a look for my video which involves changing colors in the background. For example, I have a surf shot to go with some fast paced solo guitar music and to add to that effect, I would like to add a filter on to the surf shot which would change colors from blue to green to red to yellow at every change of note in the guitar solo. I can't seem to figure out how to execute this on fcp. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Tanmay

FCP is not the best tool for this. Do you want to change the overall color or just a specific part of the shot?

In FCP you can add a 3 way Color Correction to a clip. If it is for a specific part of the background you can use the Limit Effect part of the 3 Way amd HSL key the part of the shot that you want to color change. Split the clip at each guitar note and change the color balance on the filter for each shot.

da Vinci, Color or After Effects are much better tools for this sort of keyed Color changing.
